Walt Disney Animation Studios is re-opening the vibrant world of Zootopia, bringing fans back into the lively animal metropolis with a brand new sequel. “Zootopia 2” races into cinemas on November 26, 2025, promising a fun filled chase for kids and adults alike.
Directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, the sequel welcomes back the city’s beloved duo Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, once again voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman. Joining them is Academy Award winner Ke Huy Quan as Gary De’Snake, a new character who shakes up the story with fresh energy and unexpected charm.
The film features an astounding cast of voices for 178 characters representing 67 species, building an even richer and more dynamic world than before.
A Stronger Partnership, a Bigger Challenge
The story continues with Judy and Nick adjusting to their new roles as police partners while learning new things about each other. Their dynamic centers on the film’s theme of partnership, highlighting the humorous and heartfelt moments that come with navigating differences.
Director Byron Howard describes their relationship like two new roommates discovering each other’s quirks. Co director Jared Bush adds that the film explores how simple conversations can bridge gaps and strengthen connections, even when personalities clash.
Meet Gary De’Snake, Zootopia’s New Hero
A major highlight of the sequel is the introduction of Gary De’Snake, a sweet but extremely venomous pit viper determined to restore his family’s reputation by solving a long standing mystery in Zootopia. His arrival leads Judy and Nick to go undercover in unfamiliar corners of the city as they attempt to crack the case.
Snakes have appeared in past Disney Animation films but never as a lead character in CG. Because of this, the animation team put immense effort into crafting Gary’s personality. Animation supervisor Adam Green shares that the team wanted him to be relatable and funny, challenging the usual perception that snakes are frightening.
A New Anthem for the City
No Zootopia film would be complete without a standout musical moment. Shakira returns as Gazelle and introduces the brand new original song “Zoo,” created with GRAMMY Award winners Ed Sheeran and Blake Slatkin. The track brings fresh energy to the animal metropolis and celebrates the theme of unity in diversity.
Packed with humor, heart, mystery, and music, “Zootopia 2” expands the city’s world while staying true to the charm that captured millions when the first film debuted. Moviegoers can experience the adventure in cinemas nationwide in IMAX, 4DX, and ScreenX.
Tickets are now available at the official Disney website.
